September of 2013, the VNC unanimously approved the development of AK Hotel to be built around Joe’s. We will be open during this process. Please check back for further developments.
I am moving into an exciting, new period in the life of Joe’s Restaurant. After 23 years amidst the constant evolution of Abbot Kinney and the ever-changing food trends of LA, it’s time for Joe’s Restaurant to change as well.
I will be taking on a partner. Beau Laughlin and Brett Cransen are joining ventures with me and we will be launching a new concept sometime in 2015. Hurrah! I want to honor the longevity of Joe’s Restaurant and the special place it holds, certainly in my heart and thankfully, in many of yours. To my great, long time patrons, and new friends as well, come in soon and say hello, and savor your favorite dishes that we so enjoy preparing for you.
Also, I have something to ask of you. I am starting a campaign to remember all those good times we’ve had together throughout the years. Birthdays, baby showers, first dates, awkward dates, engagements, company parties, weddings, memorials, special friends getting together for brunch—send a photo and description of your memory to help us commemorate our amazing years together. I’m cooking a lot in the kitchen these days, doing what I did in the beginning. And what great timing—foie gras is back! Come join us for a dish and celebrate. Many things have changed with us throughout the years. However, being an affordable fine dining restaurant, a little out of the way in Venice Beach that grew into earning a Michelin star—well, that story has never changed.
